Jim Messina

Few musical artists résumés list membership in a band inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame; fewer still can lay claim to being a founding member of the seminal band credited with creating Country Rock; and only one artist can include all the above in addition to being one half of the most successful duos of the 1970s.. Jim Messina started as a recording engineer for Buffalo Springfield in 1966 and went on to produce their third album. Shortly thereafter, he replaced Bruce Palmer, the bass player, touring and recording with the band up until completion and release of their album Last Time Around. Following the band’s disbandment, Messina co-founded Poco, whose debut album “Pickin’ Up The Pieces” received high praise for pioneering the country rock genre. He produced three albums for Poco before venturing into a successful partnership with Kenny Loggins. In 1971, Messina produced Loggins’ album and suggested collaborating as a duo. The duo released a series of albums, including the self-titled “Loggins & Messina,” becoming one of the most successful recording duos of the era. After parting ways with Loggins, Messina pursued a solo career, releasing critically acclaimed albums. Throughout his career, Messina remained dedicated to music and continued performing. In recent years, he released live albums and a Latin-tinged EP. With almost 50 years of experience, Messina now takes to the road to share the stories and songs that made Buffalo Springfield, Poco, and Loggins & Messina legendary.
